Making Your Home Fresh in January

Our homes can look drab in January after the decorations are put away. Here are some suggestions of how to add life to your house and embrace the clean lines of winter.
Add a white orchid by a sunny window. They are beautiful and so easy. Trader Joe’s and Whole Foods are where I buy mine.
Replace old lampshades with new ones with a more modern look. They don’t need to be expensive as I’ve found them at Target for casual living spaces. For formal areas, Lamp Arts on Howell Mill Road is my favorite place. Look for square, drum and other shapes with straight lines to replace tapered or scalloped shades that you’ve had for a while. It will really update your home!
Buy a new throw.  West Elm has a very nice and colorful selection but I recently found the ones at IKEA to be
a deal at $20.
Buy some new pillows to perk up your sofa. They don’t have to be expensive. Some of my favorites have come from World Market, TJMaxx, West Elm and Festive Home Décor on Etsy.
Lighting a new fresh scent candle always improves the atmosphere. Avoid heavy or floral scents and and stay with linen, or natural grassy or herbal scents such as rosemary, eucalyptus, or mint.
